For the previous month of June 2024, we got a variety of dope new Hip Hop Albums/EPs from some talented Emcees. It seemed like a quieter month in terms of new Hip Hop Projects however we got some dope gems through out the month. New Projects from "Lupe Fiasco, Homeboy Sandman, Locksmith, Your Old Droog, IAMGAWD & Clypto, Jamaar Milton, Cymarshall Law & Slimline Mutha, CJ Fly, Fashawn, maticulous, Noveliss & Hir-O, Kxng Crooked & Joell Ortiz" and much more. My favorite Album on this list as you can see below is Lupe Fiasco’s “Samurai” album, Produced by longtime collaborator “Soundtrakk”. The 8 song project is somewhat conceptual, inspired by late, great singer “Amy Winehouse”. The title itself was inspired by a moment in Asif Kapadia’s 2015 Amy Winehouse documentary in which the late singer leaves a voice message for producer Salaam Remi describing herself as a “samurai battle rapper”. On the album, Lupe paints story’s that reflect an artistic journey that Amy Winehouse experiences going from singer to battle rapper (in character form). In other moments, Lupe addresses some of his personal challenges as an artist and overcoming obstacles among other topics, as well as those that revolve around the ever present themes of the samurai and battle rap, This album may only be 8 songs long but the lyrics are a bit dense and carry a lot of thought provoking opportunity to reflect on. Lupe’s hooks / singing on the album helps a lot to keep the listener In tuned. It’s a really well produced album also. The other projects that came out in June are also pretty good but Lupe’s Album currently takes the cake (pun intended - see song title) as it’s the clear number 1 on this list.
